This is the second Billy Joel song. I heard him describe this song and he was adamant that it was not a political song but just a history of what has happened in his lifetime up until then. I also am amazed at the history I have witnessed and love to share it with my students. My favorite is a three-week period in 1969 that defined a generation. On July 20th, a man walked on the moon sowing the heights we could reach. August 9-11 saw the Manson Cult killing 7 people, showing the evil that people can do to others. August 15-17 saw Woodstock and the changing of the guard of a generation.
