The story for today isn’t about my time at Rangeview. It is about my time at Vivian Elementary in Lakewood growing up. As we pass into the year 2023 I am reminded of how far away the year 2000 is. It is as far from my high school graduation as the year 2000 and I remember thinking about how far off that was. Let’s go back even further and go to 1971. In sixth grade, I had Mrs. Young, a very progressive teacher and because of her, I like to do student-focused and decided projects. She had us write an essay on what we thought life would be like in the year 2000. I was close. I remember that I wanted instant communication and not to have to look for a phone. I wanted instant food and to not wait for things to be made. I wanted instant information so that I didn’t have to spend a lot of time looking for things. There was one thing I didn’t get. I wanted flying cars. The universe still owes me that one. What is nice is that it is fun to have students speculate on their future.
